TECHPRO APPROVAL REQUIRED
Request document access
TechPro will verify the machine configuration and requester before releasing the document. This prevents incompatible manuals, drawings or software-related files from being used on the wrong machine.
Licensing and cybersecurity notice
TechPro does not recommend cracked, modified or unknown-source installers. Unauthorized software can contain malware, disable updates, corrupt controller files and invalidate vendor support. Confirm license ownership and scan all files before installation.
POST PROCESSOR GUIDANCE
POST PROCESSOR GUIDANCE BY CONTROLLER
A post processor translates CAM toolpaths into the syntax expected by the controller. The machine may run the wrong file without an immediate alarm, so every new post must be tested safely.
Vectric Aspire / VCarve / Cut2D
Typical TechPro targets include Mach3, Mach4, Weihong/NCStudio, RichAuto DSP, Syntec and LNC.
- Post format: .pp or .ppp
- Confirm units, arcs, safe Z and tool-change commands
- ATC posts require verified tool numbers and macros
Autodesk Fusion
Fusion uses JavaScript-based .cps posts and can also use machine definitions.
- Start from the closest verified controller family
- Confirm work offsets, arcs, drilling cycles and rotary axis
- Do not edit a production post without version control
Mastercam
Mastercam output depends on the post, control definition and machine definition working together.
- Typical post format: .pst
- Multi-axis and aggregate heads need custom engineering
- Verify retract logic, TCP/RTCP and tool calls
RhinoCAM / VisualCAM
MecSoft posts are controller-specific and should be tested with a simple reference job.
- Typical post format: .spm
- Check arc planes, sequence numbers and file extension
- Review rotary-axis sign and zero position
SolidCAM / CAMWorks
Integrated CAD/CAM systems use machine packages and post files that may be supplied by a reseller or post developer.
- SolidCAM commonly uses .gpp and .vmid
- Confirm controller cycles and machine kinematics
- Keep the working machine package backed up
Furniture, Laser & Cutting Systems
Many systems use a machine connector or project package instead of a traditional G-code post.
- CypCut/TubePro require matched controller configuration
- Cabinet software may need a paid machine integration
- LightBurn uses a device profile for supported controllers
CNC MANUALS & SOFTWARE: A PRACTICAL SELECTION GUIDE
A PRACTICAL FILE SELECTION GUIDE
CHOOSE THE RIGHT FILE BEFORE CHANGING A WORKING MACHINE
Start with the Machine Nameplate
Do not identify a machine by its frame, table size or paint color. Machines that look identical may have different controllers, motion cards, I/O boards, spindles, tool changers or firmware.
Record the full model and serial number from the nameplate. Photograph the controller label and its About or Version screen. Note the operating system, software version, number of axes and fitted options such as an ATC, rotary axis, drill bank or aggregate head. These details are more useful than a general product name when selecting CNC controller software or a machine manual.
Use the Manual That Answers the Job
A general operation manual explains homing, work offsets, loading a program and routine care. A controller manual covers menus, alarms, parameters and I/O. Electrical drawings are for wiring and component connections. Commissioning guides cover installation and fitted options, while maintenance checklists cover scheduled inspections.
Check the model, controller and document revision before following a procedure. CNC machine manuals should be checked against the build record; a recently dated PDF can still be wrong for an older controller or a machine with different options. Keep the manual supplied with the machine until a replacement has been confirmed.
Follow the Software Chain
CAD creates geometry. CAM creates the toolpath. A post processor converts that toolpath into code the controller understands. The control application loads and runs the program. Drivers and plug-ins connect the computer to the motion hardware. Firmware, PLC logic and machine parameters sit below those layers.
Find the failing layer before installing anything. Poor geometry is not fixed by a driver. A USB communication fault is not fixed by a post processor. Wrong tool-change code is not a CAD problem. Separating the workflow this way shortens troubleshooting and avoids replacing files that were already working.
Match the Controller and Motion Hardware
Mach3, Mach4, NCStudio or Weihong, Syntec, LNC, RichAuto, LinuxCNC and GRBL are different control families. Their installers, plug-ins, parameter files and machine profiles are not interchangeable.
Confirm the controller generation, firmware level, motion card or communication interface, Windows or Linux version and license type. The controller name alone is not enough. Two Mach3 machines, for example, may use different motion cards and plug-ins. For CNC software downloads, use the software vendor as the source, then check whether that release and machine profile belong to the specific machine.
Check the Process and Fitted Options
A router, nesting center, fiber laser, plasma cutter and digital knife may start from the same drawing, but the machine-ready files are different. Router output depends on units, axes, spindle commands, tool numbers and ATC logic. Nesting systems may also use drilling units, labels and production databases.
Laser output depends on the controller, laser source, cutting head and gas settings. Plasma output depends on the power supply, pierce sequence and torch-height control. Knife systems use blade, creasing and tool assignments. Select the resource by the actual process and hardware, not by table size alone.
Version, Windows and License Come Before the Update
Do not assume the newest installer is the safest choice. Check the supported operating system, 32-bit or 64-bit requirement, controller firmware, plug-in version, release notes and license method. Some licenses are tied to a dongle, network adapter, hard-drive ID or controller serial number.
Keep a copy of the current installer, license information and version screen before updating. If a vendor release is newer than the version validated for the machine, confirm compatibility first. A stable production computer does not need an update simply because a higher version number is available.
Judge a CNC Post Processor by Its Output
A CNC post processor must match the CAM product, controller family, machine kinematics, units and fitted options. The file extension does not prove that the output is correct.
Check metric or inch output, arc format, absolute or incremental I/J mode, safe Z, work offsets, spindle and coolant M-codes, tool-change sequence, rotary-axis direction and the expected NC extension. For an ATC machine, verify tool numbers and macros. For four- or five-axis work, also confirm rotary mapping and any TCP or RTCP requirement. Generate a short test program and compare it with a known-good file before using the post on a real job.
Build a Backup You Can Restore
Make a rollback package before importing parameters, installing a driver or changing the control computer. Save controller parameters, PLC or HMI data where available, work and tool offsets, tool tables, macros, calibration files, licenses, machine profiles, the working post processor and at least one proven production program.
For a critical Windows control PC, a full disk image is safer than copying a few folders. Store the backup on another computer or drive and label it with the machine serial number and date. Do not overwrite the only copy that can return the machine to production.
Test One Change at a Time
Close production work before making a software change. Read the vendor notes, verify the backup and change only one item. If the result is wrong, you should know exactly what caused it.
After installation, check controller communication, units, axis direction, homing, limit switches, work offsets, spindle or process output and tool-change behavior. Review the program in CAM simulation and in the controller preview. Where the machine procedure allows, use a dry run with safe clearance, single-block mode and a low feed override. Stop if the first motion differs from the preview or a known-good program.
Let the Symptom Point to the Cause
A fault that starts immediately after an import or update usually points to the item that changed. A part scaled by 25.4 suggests an inch and millimeter error. Mirrored motion suggests axis direction or post output. Distorted arcs suggest the wrong I/J mode or arc plane. A stop at tool change points to an M-code, macro or ATC setting.
If the controller disappears from the computer, check the driver, port, cable, power and motion hardware before editing CAM settings. Restore the last known-good setup before changing several unrelated parameters. Multiple changes make the original cause much harder to find.
Send the Details Support Needs
If the version is uncertain, do not guess. Send the machine model and serial number, nameplate photo, controller label, About or Version screen, computer operating system, axis count and fitted options. Add the software name and version, the file you tried, the exact alarm or result and what changed just before the problem appeared.
For a post processor request, include the CAM product and version, controller, units, tool-change type, rotary or aggregate configuration and a known-good NC sample if one is available. This is usually enough to identify the right manual, driver, setup guide or post path.
START WITH THE MACHINE, NOT THE DOWNLOAD
Do not choose a file only because the product name looks familiar. Two CNC machines can share the same frame and still use different controllers, motion cards, I/O maps, spindles, tool changers or firmware. Before opening any download, record the machine model, serial number, controller label, software or firmware version, operating system and installed options. That short checklist prevents the most common failures: overwritten parameters, lost licenses, reversed axes, missing I/O and unsafe tool changes. If any field is uncertain, request confirmation and include clear photos of the nameplate, electrical cabinet label and About/Version screen.
SOFTWARE AND MANUAL FAQ
SOFTWARE AND MACHINE MANUAL FAQS
Quick answers about CNC software, controller compatibility, post processors, installation, licensing and safe updates.
1. Which software is included with my TechPro CNC machine?
The included controller software, design/CAM package, license type and optional modules are listed in the quotation and contract. Send the quotation number or machine serial number if you need TechPro to confirm the original software package.
2. Can I use my existing CAD/CAM software?
Usually yes if it can create a suitable file format or verified post processor for the controller. Provide the software name, version and a sample file before ordering so the complete workflow can be tested.
3. What is a CNC post processor?
A post processor converts CAM toolpaths into controller-specific NC code or a machine job file. It controls syntax such as units, arcs, tool changes, spindle commands, work offsets and file extension.
4. Can I download the newest controller software and install it directly?
No. Verify the controller hardware, firmware, license, machine parameters and driver requirements first. A newer release may not be compatible with the motion card or machine configuration.
5. Why does TechPro need my machine serial number?
The serial number connects the request to the machine build record, controller, purchased options and original software package. Machines that look similar may use different I/O, firmware, parameters or post processors.
6. Is ArtCAM still available for new purchase?
Autodesk discontinued ArtCAM. Existing customers should retain their lawful installer and license records. New projects should consider a supported alternative such as Vectric Aspire, Fusion, RhinoCAM or another suitable CAM system.
7. Do AutoCAD, Illustrator or CorelDRAW send files directly to the machine?
They are primarily design programs. Most CNC routers, laser cutters and production systems still require CAM, nesting, marking or controller software to assign process parameters and create machine-ready output.
8. Can TechPro provide a post for Vectric, Fusion or Mastercam?
TechPro can review the requirement and may provide or recommend a suitable post where licensing and machine data allow. Multi-axis, aggregate, automated and custom machines may require paid post development and formal acceptance testing.
9. What should I back up before reinstalling Windows?
Back up controller software folders, parameters, PLC or macro files, correction and calibration files, licenses, dongle details, network settings, tool data, post processors, machine profiles and known-good jobs. A full disk image is recommended for critical control PCs.
10. Why is my USB or controller not detected?
Possible causes include the wrong driver, unsupported Windows version, damaged cable, incorrect USB port, missing administrator rights, power issues or incompatible controller hardware. Send Device Manager screenshots and the controller label before installing random drivers.
11. Can I use free or open-source software?
Yes where it meets the process and controller requirements. FreeCAD, Blender, LinuxCNC and UGS can be useful, but support scope, post quality, training and production risk should be evaluated before they become the standard factory workflow.
12. How do I test a new post processor safely?
Review the NC code, simulate it, run without material or with the process disabled, use single-block mode and low feed override, verify axis direction and tool changes, then cut a simple reference part before approving production use.
13. Can remote support install software on my control computer?
Remote assistance may be available with customer authorization and a qualified person at the machine. Backups should be completed first, and the customer remains responsible for company IT approval, data protection and physical machine safety.
14. What if my software is not listed on this page?
Send the exact software name, version screenshot, controller model and desired output. The library covers common workflows, but TechPro can review additional CAD/CAM, nesting, marking and controller systems.
